Welcome to La Petite Ferme Embir
Luxury Self-Catering Gites in the Heart of Rural France
Rest. Relax. Recharge. Rewind.
Open all year round and situated almost halfway between the North and South of France, La Petite Ferme Embir is at the end of a quiet lane in the small hamlet of Lavaud Pubet. It’s the perfect place to stopover and have a break on your long journey, or stay a while longer to explore the area. Stay in one of our well appointed self-catering gites and discover for yourself why this beautiful region is so popular with the discerning traveller.
Your hosts at Petite Ferme Embir, Malcolm and Clare, wish you a very warm welcome to their newly renovated and tastefully furnished gites. They look forward to sharing with you their knowledge and passion for this beautiful area.
Our Accommodation
Previously a traditional stone barn, the two gites at Petite Ferme Embir, retain many original features, including the wooden beams and door frames.
As is common on large estates in France, our land had a private chapel. Sadly, many years ago, the chapel collapsed, and the previous owner used the fallen stones around the entrance doors and windows of the gites. Even the stone in the spiral staircase in Stable Cottage comes from the farm’s derelict chapel. Thankfully, the previous property owner had the foresight to collect and reuse the ancient stones in and around the cottages, which adds even more to their beautifully unique character.
Stable Cottage – 2 bedrooms
The larger of the two gites, Stable Cottage consists of an open plan living and dining area with a well-equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher.
On the ground floor there is also…
a cloakroom, storage cupboard and a large luxurious bathroom with a bath, shower and hand basin.
The first floor…
…comprises two large bedrooms. One room has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom; the second bedroom has two double beds. Luxury sheets, pillows, duvets and towels are provided, and each bathroom has toiletries by Molton Brown of London.
Stable Cottage has its own gardens…
at the front and rear of the gite with tables, chairs and sun loungers. There is also a covered terrace with outside cooking facilities where you can dine alfresco morning, noon and night. Sit and listen to the birds singing while you have breakfast. Enjoy the views while you sip something cold and refreshing over lunch. After a day out sight-seeing and exploring the area, sit back and relax while you dine on traditional French meats and cheeses purchased from one of the local weekly farmer’s markets. We’ll even provide a basket to take shopping with you!
Willow Cottage – 1 bedroom
Willow Cottage has a comfortable, cosy open-plan kitchen and living area with a staircase leading to the first floor. Check out the stunning views from the private balcony!
Upstairs, the bedroom…
has a king-size bed, toilet, en-suite shower room and a balcony with views across the undulating landscape. It’s the perfect spot to sit, watch the wildlife and enjoy the peace and tranquility of your surroundings.
With a graceful willow tree…
providing plenty of shade, the beautiful front garden is also a quiet area where you can enjoy a drink or meal at the outside table, with chairs and sun loungers.
Picture warm, summer evenings…
sitting outdoors, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and gazing up at a breath-taking star-filled sky. It’s pure bliss!

About Us
Meet your hosts, Malcolm and Clare Emblin.
Having owned a holiday home in Brittany since 2015, an ‘out of the blue offer’ on their UK home in November 2020 enabled them to fulfil their dreams and move permanently to France.
After living temporarily in Brittany while they looked for their forever home, they finally decided to settle in the stunning Indre region of central France.
Malcolm and Clare moved everything they owned – including their five dogs and five horses – to this picturesque property they now call home.
Although Malcolm still has a ‘day’ job, he also helps out with any necessary maintenance of the properties, moving the hay for the horses, inspecting and repairing the fencing and grass-cutting.
Clare no longer rides but she still cares for her horses, looks after the rest of their small menagerie and tends the garden. She is also front of house – welcoming the guests, ensuring they have everything they need and being an extremely charming and helpful host.
Their small, friendly menagerie currently comprises 3 horses, 3 sheep, 4 goats, 10 chickens and 3 geese. Guests are very welcome to accompany Clare to help collect the eggs or groom the horses. A small packet of the sheep’s favourite biscuits will be in the gite, and if you call ‘Whoopi’ the black sheep will run over and you can feed her through the fence.
